Bali Catamarans for Sale

Bali catamarans are big-volume cruising cats built by the Catana Group in Canet-en-Roussillon, on France's Mediterranean coast. They're known for a solid foredeck instead of trampolines and a saloon that opens fully to the cockpit. Many on the used market are ex-charter boats.

Catana's comfort brand

Catana built light, fast performance catamarans for about three decades before launching Bali in 2014. The idea, from then-CEO Olivier Poncin, was a separate line built for living aboard rather than speed: more volume, more space inside and out. Naval architect Xavier Faÿ, who had also worked for Lagoon, drew the hulls.

The first model, the Bali 4.5, debuted at the Cannes boat show in September 2014. Germany's YACHT magazine reported a base price of €451,010 including VAT, on par with the Lagoon 450 and Fountaine Pajot Helia 44. Bali says it has since become one of the world's largest multihull builders.

All Balis share Catana's build: foam-core sandwich with no wood core, vacuum resin infusion, and a one-piece bridge deck and topsides.

Three models in detail

Bali 4.5 (2014 on). 13.6 m (44.6 ft) long, 7.42 m beam, 1.22 m draft, 11 tonnes light, 800 liters each of fuel and water. It came with a side helm or a flybridge helm, and 2 to 4 cabins. Cruising World tested one with the flybridge and twin 50 hp Kubota diesels in 2015: just over 6 knots cruising under power, a little over 6 knots close-hauled in about 15 knots of wind, and under 5 knots on a broader angle. Price as tested was about $650,000.

Bali 4.2. 42'2" overall, 23'2" beam, 4'0" draft, 25,133 lb empty, with 852 sq ft of usable deck. Standard sail area is 968 sq ft, or 1,259 sq ft upwind with extra sails.

Bali 4.6 (2020 on). 47'0" overall, 25'1" beam, 4'2" draft, 30,567 lb empty and 45,578 lb at maximum load. It has 1,026 sq ft of usable deck, 3 to 5 cabins and twin Yanmars of 40 to 57 hp. Cruising World saw about 5 knots close-hauled in 10 to 12 knots of wind and about 6 on a beam reach.

Used prices

A buyer's guide by Boat Tomorrow, dated August 2026, counted 50 to 60 Bali 4.6s for sale worldwide. Its asking-price bands: €510,000 to €620,000 for 2020 to 2022 ex-charter boats, €620,000 to €850,000 for 2023 to 2024 boats, and up to €1,175,000 for new or near-new ones. US and Caribbean asking prices for 2022 and 2023 boats have run about $650,000 to $800,000. Older Bali 4.5s sell for much less.

What to check on a used Bali

Charter history. Ask whether it was in a charter fleet, for how long, and get the fleet's maintenance logs. Ex-charter boats are cheaper but often need new sails and cushions.

The big doors. The tilting aft door and the opening forward window are what make a Bali. Work them several times, look at the hinges, gas struts, rams and seals, and check for leaks into the saloon.

Engine size. Owners and reviewers say the 4.6 is slow in light air, so the engines get used a lot. The 57 hp option is better. Get hours and saildrive service records, and check the saildrive seals.

Code 0. Reviewers recommend a Code 0 or gennaker for light air. One already fitted is worth several thousand dollars.

Structure. Have the surveyor check the bulkhead bonds and the solid foredeck, which carries people and gear in a seaway.

Slip and haul-out. At 23 to 25 feet wide, you'll need a catamaran slip and a yard with a wide travel lift. Price those before you buy.
