Fenech helped build Keystone RV and then started Grand Design RV with his brother Ron and Don Clark in 2012. Winnebago bought Grand Design in 2016. A noncompete kept him out of RVs, so he moved to boats. Boating Industry reported that Barletta was formed in June 2017 in a 110,000-square-foot plant on 37 acres northeast of Bristol, and that production of the first L-Class boats began that December. Barletta won the NMMA pontoon innovation award at the 2018 Minneapolis Boat Show, its first season.

Barletta named its series after the first letter of each model code. The L-Class became the Lusso, and the C-Class became the Cabrio in 2020. The Corsa came in 2021, the Reserve in 2023, and the Aria became the entry model. In a model like the L25UC, U means U-shaped seating and C means co-captain chairs.

Lusso L25UC

Boating magazine tested an L25UC in 2019. It's 27 feet 6 inches long with an 8-foot-6 beam, about 4,100 pounds, with a 48-gallon tank. It's rated for up to 350 hp on triple tubes and 150 hp on two. With a 300 hp Mercury Verado Pro XS, six adults and full fuel, it hit 47 mph. The price as tested was $84,655. The testers liked the full belly skin and big risers but wanted the aft cleats moved further back and a standard compass.

Cabrio C22UC

Pontoon & Deck Boat Magazine tested the Cabrio C22UC, Barletta's best-selling floor plan, in 2024. It's 23 feet 2 inches by 8 feet 6, weighs 2,572 pounds dry, carries 34 gallons of fuel and seats 12. With a Mercury 200 FourStroke it reached 43.3 mph and went from 0 to 20 mph in 4.2 seconds. Base price was $54,765, or $86,338 with the engine. PDB noted that it has a power Bimini as standard, which is unusual at this price, plus a 7-foot ski locker and pull-out pet bowls.

What they cost

Boat Trader showed 1,360 Barlettas in fall 2026, but only 193 were used. That's because the company only began building boats in 2017. A 2019 L23UC was $55,000 at Osage Beach, Missouri, and a 2020 Cabrio C22CC was $45,044 in Conroe, Texas. A 2021 Cabrio C24UC was $50,980 at Lake Martin, and a 2023 Lusso L25UA was $135,988. New, a 2026 Aria A22UC was $55,988 and a 2026 L25UCAT reached $408,473.

Buying checks for a Barletta

Don't judge by length. A 22-foot Aria and a 23-foot Lusso can be $100,000 apart. Check the letter at the start of the model code first.

Ask about the 10-year warranty. PDB said the Cabrio came with a 10-year bow-to-stern factory warranty. Ask the dealer what transfers to a second owner.

Count the tubes. Boating's figures show twin-tube L25s top out at 150 hp. A triple-tube boat with a big V8 is a different machine.

Check the electronics. These boats have lots of RGB lighting, touchscreens and power Biminis. Make sure everything works before closing.
