Everglades Boats for Sale
Everglades Boats builds foam-cored fishing boats in Edgewater, Florida. The company was started by Bob Dougherty, the engineer behind much of Boston Whaler's early success.
Bob Dougherty, "Mr. Unsinkable"
Bob Dougherty joined Boston Whaler in 1960. Everglades credits him with work on Whaler's unsinkable hull, its first V-bottom hull and its first center console. After Whaler he founded Edgewater Power Boats, and then Everglades Boats in Edgewater, Florida. In 2012, at 82, he was still designing boats there with his son Stephen, and the company was building 16 models.
RAMCAP
Whaler injects foam between the hull and liner. Dougherty's RAMCAP, the Rapid Molded Core Assembly Process, works the other way round: the high-density structural foam core is molded separately first, and then the hull is built around it. Everglades says this puts the foam exactly where it needs to be with no voids. RAMCAP won the Marine Manufacturers Innovation Award, and every Everglades hull still uses it.
The current lineup
- Hybrid boats: 253CC and 273CC.
- Center consoles: 285CC, 315CC, 335CC, 375CC, 395CC, 425CC and 455CC.
- Crossovers: 367CX and 437CX.
As an example, Everglades' model-year 2027 spec sheet lists the 335CC at 32'4" without engines, with a 10'8" beam, about 10,330 lb dry without engines, 306 gallons of fuel and a 900 hp maximum. That fuel load gives it real offshore range, and the weight is a big part of the ride Everglades owners talk about. In head seas, a heavy foam-cored hull rides very differently from a lighter boat of the same length.
The model number is roughly the length: a 335CC is a 33-footer and a 455CC is a 45-footer. Older listings include smaller boats from the years when the range ran from the low 20s to the mid 30s.
What to check on a used Everglades
Hull damage. A foam-core hull still needs its glass intact. Look for cracks and old repairs, and ask a surveyor to moisture-check the hull and deck, paying attention around through-hull fittings and holes drilled for accessories.
Outboards. Everglades are outboard boats, often with twins or triples on the larger models. Get compression and lower unit checks on every engine and the service records.
Saltwater wear. Most are used offshore. Check stainless hardware, wiring, pumps, livewells and electronics for corrosion.
Hardtop and console. Check the hardtop mounts for cracks and the console hatches and seals for leaks.
