Hurricane Deck Boats for Sale

Hurricane built the first fiberglass deck boat in 1974, and deck boats are still its whole business. Used Hurricanes are a common family boat on lakes across the Midwest and South.

The first deck boat

In 1974 Hurricane came up with a new idea: take a normal bowrider, widen out the bow, and get much more deck space without giving up the performance. That's what we now call a deck boat. More than 40 years later, Hurricane was building 36 deck boat models across four lines.

Hurricane is built in Elkhart, Indiana, at 4500 Middlebury Street, and is part of the same family of brands as Godfrey Marine, the pontoon builder.

The lines

  • SunDeck: the main family deck boat line, from small boats up to models like the SunDeck 2690.
  • SunDeck Sport: sportier deck boats with more performance.
  • FunDeck: smaller, cheaper deck boats aimed at first-time buyers.
  • Center consoles: Hurricane's fishing-oriented deck boats.

Model names include the length and power, so an SS 203 OB is a SunDeck Sport around 20 feet with an outboard ("OB").

For a sense of size, the SunDeck Sport SS 203 OB is 20'9" long with an 8'6" beam, a 200 hp max, a 49-gallon tank and room for 10 people, according to Power Boating's test.

Spec sheet: the SunDeck 2400 OB

The SunDeck 2400 OB is a typical Hurricane outboard deck boat. Hurricane's spec page lists it at 24 feet with an 8'6" beam and a 3,735 lb dry weight. Fuel is 66 gallons, max power is 300 hp and capacity is 12 people, 2,000 lbs of passengers or 2,820 lbs in total.

Motor and Keel lists the 2026 SunDeck 2400 OB at an MSRP of $86,001. A New Jersey dealer listed a new 2024 model with a Yamaha F250 at a sale price of $89,856. Yamaha also published a performance bulletin for this hull with an F225. That bulletin lists 77 gallons of fuel, which is different from Hurricane's 66, so check the tank on the boat you're looking at.

A deck boat with 12 seats is usually used by families. Look closely at the upholstery, the bow seating and the ladder.

What to check on a used Hurricane

Outboard or sterndrive. Find out which one the boat has. On sterndrives, check the bellows, gimbal bearing and lower unit. On outboards, check compression and the lower unit. Get the hours and records either way.

Floors and transom. Walk the whole deck and feel for soft spots. Check the transom for cracks and flex.

Upholstery. Deck boats have a lot of seating. Look for cracked vinyl and rotten seat bases, and check under the cushions for mildew.

Bimini and covers. Raise and lower the bimini and check the canvas.

Bow area. Look at the bow and bow ladder for damage from beaching.

Trailer. A deck boat carries its weight wide. Make sure the bunks sit flat under the hull, and check the winch strap, safety chains and coupler for wear.

Water test. Run it up on plane with some people aboard. Deck boats can feel different with a full load.
