Four Winns Boats for Sale
Four Winns built bowriders, deck boats and cruisers in Cadillac, Michigan, for more than 50 years. There are a lot of used ones for sale, from 1990s Horizons to the current H and HD series.
The Winn family
In 1975 John Winn, his father Bill Sr. and his brothers Bill Jr. and Charlie bought a small Cadillac boat company called Saf-T-Mate and renamed it Four Winns. The first models, the Candia deck boat and the Marquise runabout, came out in 1978. The Liberator 204 followed in 1983, and the Horizon and Sundowner lines in 1984. OMC bought Four Winns in 1987, and John Winn stayed to run it until 1995.
Groupe Beneteau bought the brand in 2014. In June 2026 Beneteau said it would close the Cadillac plant and look for buyers for Four Winns, Glastron and Scarab Jet, and the plant closed on August 14, 2026. If you are buying a recent Four Winns, ask the dealer how warranty and parts are being handled.
Model lines
In 1990 Four Winns sold the Freedom, Horizon, Candia, Sundowner, Vista and Liberator series. The Funship deck boats replaced the Candia in 2000, the SL bowriders arrived in 2008, and the V575, at 49 feet, was the largest boat it ever built.
The H series was redesigned in 2022, with bowriders from about 20 to 33 feet in sterndrive and outboard versions. The HD series adds a wider deck-boat bow, with the HD3, HD5 and HD8 from 2019 and the HD2 for 2026. There are Surf versions with ballast and forward-facing Volvo Penta drives, and in 2022 Four Winns launched the H2e, an all-electric bowrider built with Vision Marine.
What to check on a used Four Winns
1990s recalls. BoatVerdict lists eight Coast Guard campaigns. The big ones are from the 1990s: 8,550 boats (170H, 190H, 192 and 200H) for cracked fuel fill fittings, 5,002 of the 1994 278 Vista for the electrical system, and 2,397 180 Freedom and 190 Horizon boats for a possible fuel tank leak. On a 1990s boat, run the HIN and check the fuel fill and tank area.
Vista cabins. A 1992 recall covered the 315 Vista and 325 Express for carbon monoxide getting into the head through a vent. On any Vista, test the CO detector.
Sterndrives. Have a dealer for the drive brand check the bellows, gimbal bearing and transom shield, and look for water in the drive oil. On a Surf boat with forward drives, run the ballast pumps and test the surf system.
Older wood. Older Four Winns had wood in the transom and stringers. On any boat from the 1990s, have a surveyor sound the transom and floor.
