L&H Boats for Sale

L&H Boats is a small custom builder in Stuart, Florida, best known for the 33 Walkaround: a diesel sportfisher with full side decks that fishes like a much bigger boat. Only one or two are built a year, so used boats are rare and most come up on the Northeast coast and in Florida.

A Jersey fishing family's idea

The name comes from L&H Plumbing Supply, the Meyer family business in New Jersey. The Meyers had fished out of Manasquan Inlet for three generations, from a 31 Bertram launched in 1969 to a 62 Garlington. In 1992 John Meyer partnered with boatbuilder Glenn Muller to build what he considered the perfect 33-foot sportfisher.

Meyer's pitch, quoted in the Jersey Coast Anglers Association newsletter in 1994, was that big boats cost too much to run and the future was smaller, affordable boats with everything a serious angler needs. The base price then was $150,000.

Muller had worked as a carpenter under Richard Garlington before signing on. Meyer later sold the company to him. Muller told Soundings that L&H builds one or two boats a year, hand-laid with vinylester resin and no infusion or vacuum bagging, and that he deliberately doesn't build an ultralight boat because a heavier boat runs better and is more stable. He claims L&H had the first walkaround.

The L&H 33

The 33 is the core model, with more than 35 hulls built by the time Soundings visited. A 1992 boat listed in 2026 measures 33 feet 9 inches with an 11-foot-6 beam, a 3-foot-4 draft and 300 gallons of diesel. Twin Cummins 6BTA 5.9 diesels at 370 hp each are the common package. A 2004 boat listed by a Jupiter broker was quoted at a 28 knot cruise and a 34 knot top end with that power.

A 43-foot walkaround was previewed by Marlin magazine, planned at 30,000 pounds with a 30-inch draft, twin 600 hp Cummins QSC diesels and 600 gallons of fuel, for a projected 32 knot cruise.

What they sell for

YachtWorld listed two L&H boats in late 2026. Brielle Yacht Sales asked $209,000 for a 1992 33 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, with Cummins rebuilt in 2016, new shafts in 2025 and Seakeeper Ride. Waterfront Yacht Brokerage asked $225,000 for a 2009 33 Walkaround in Montauk with 1,781 hours on Cummins QSB 5.9s. A 2004 boat in Jupiter was listed at $269,000 and has sold. Refit history moves the price more than the model year does.

Buying checks for an L&H

Get the engine history in writing. On a 30-year-old diesel boat, rebuild dates and receipts are worth more than the hour meter. Have a diesel surveyor do oil analysis and a load test.

Survey the running gear. Shafts, cutless bearings, struts and props wear on inboard boats. Ask when they were last done.

Call the builder. L&H also refits older boats in Stuart. A custom boat from a shop that small may have build records on file.

Inspect the tower. Listed 33s often carry a tuna tower with an upper station. Check the welds, the mounting points and the deck around the bases for cracks.
