Pro-Line Boats for Sale
Pro-Line has built saltwater fishing boats on Florida's Gulf Coast since 1968. Used Pro-Lines are common, they span decades of models, and many are bay and nearshore boats in the 20 to 26-foot range.
Built for fishing guides
Dan Atwood and his father Ray started Pro-Line in 1968, building fishing boats for local guides around Crystal River and Inglis, Florida. The company moved to Homosassa in 1970. Because Pro-Line has been building so long, used boats on the market range from older fiberglass boats with wood in them to recent outboard-powered models.
The 23 Sport
Pro-Line lists the current 23 Sport at 23' long with an 8'6" beam, a 17-inch draft, a 20-degree deadrise and 118 gallons of fuel. The hull weighs 3,540 lb and the trailer weight is 5,560 lb. It is rated for eight people and up to 300 hp.
Suzuki tested a 23 Sport with a single DF225 in 2015 and recorded a top speed of 45.1 mph. A single 225 to 300 on a 23-footer is a simple, cheaper setup than twins, which helps used prices.
The 8'6" beam keeps it towable without a permit in most states, so check the trailer as closely as the boat.
Spec sheet: the 23 Sport
The 23 Sport is a typical current Pro-Line. Pro-Line's model page lists it at 23'0" with an 8'6" beam, a 17-inch hull draft and a 20-degree deadrise. It carries 118 gallons of fuel, is rated for 300 hp and has a capacity of 8 people. The hull weighs 3,540 lbs, or 5,560 lbs with the trailer. Bridge clearance with the top is 9'8".
For fishing, the spec sheet lists an 18-gallon baitwell and two fish boxes at 60 gallons.
The 8'6" beam is what makes it easy to tow. With a single outboard there's only one engine to survey, but get a compression test and the hours either way.
What to check on a used Pro-Line
Wood by year. Pro-Line says it started replacing wood with composites in 1994 and was wood-free across all models by 1997. A pre-1994 Pro-Line can have wood in the transom, stringers, deck and cabin, and rot is the main risk. Have a surveyor sound and meter the transom and stringers before you agree a price. On a 1997 or newer boat, rot is much less of a concern.
1995 recall. A 1995 Coast Guard recall covered the Pro-Line 210-S, 240-3 and 251-S. If you are looking at one of those, run the HIN and ask for proof the work was done.
Single outboard boats. Many 20 to 23-foot Pro-Lines run a single outboard. Get compression numbers, and check the transom around the engine bolts for cracks.
Trailer. At 8'6" wide, most come on a trailer that has seen salt. Check brakes, bearings and the frame for rust.
