Dragonfly Trimarans for Sale

Dragonfly trimarans are built by Quorning Boats in Skærbæk, Denmark. Their Swing Wing floats fold in from the cockpit, so a boat that sails 21 feet wide fits a monohull slip or a road trailer. Used ones are scarce in the US, and many good boats are listed in Europe.

A family yard in Skærbæk

Børge Quorning came home to Denmark after building boats in Canada, set on making Europeans appreciate trimarans. In August 1967 he and his younger brother Bent started building their own yard at Skærbæk, and the company says the same production hall is still in use next to the main office. Their first boat, the Trident 28, sold only hull number one, so the brothers built the Luna 19 and Luna 26 monohulls to pay the bills.

In 1972 Børge built a 16-foot plywood and foam trimaran for his sons Erik and Jens. It was the first boat called Dragonfly. The defining moment came in August 1989 with the Dragonfly 800 Swing Wing, the first one that folded. Jens took over in 1996 and is still CEO. Børge died in March 2022, aged 90.

The current range is the 25, 28, 33, 36 and 40. The 33 replaces the long-running 32.

Dragonfly 28 and 32

The 28 is the one you'll see most. The UK dealer Multihull Solutions calls it the brand's most popular model, with almost 250 built. The Performance version is 8.75 m long with a 6.50 m sailing beam that folds to 2.54 m, and it draws 0.40 m with the board up and 1.70 m down. It weighs 2,180 kg sail-away, carries a 13.6 m carbon mast with a 43 m² main, and takes up to a 15 hp outboard. The Touring has a 12.1 m alloy mast and 37 m² main.

SAIL's test of the 28 Performance noted floats almost 2 feet longer than before with 20 percent more volume, plus a rudder 10 inches deeper. Even in light air it kept way and tacked smartly. Voile Magazine sailed one in a steady 20 knots and averaged 13 knots over the day. Multihulls Today spent a week on a Touring and called it quick and comfortable, though it said cruising with three or four aboard is more realistic than five.

The 32, launched in 2012, sails 9.80 m long and 8.00 m wide, folds to 3.60 m and weighs 3,400 kg. Owners can add electric winches to fold it. It was nominated for European Yacht of the Year in 2013.

What they cost

These hold value. In late 2026 a 2013 Dragonfly 28 Sport with trailer and a 750-hour Honda 15 was listed at €128,000 in Lorient, France, and a one-owner 2016 Touring at €129,000 in Hindeloopen, Netherlands. A 2020 Performance that had been a yard demo was €190,000 in Ibiza. In the US, boats.com showed a 2023 Touring demonstrator in Annapolis at $249,900 and a 2024 in Vancouver at $249,000. New, Voile Magazine quoted a base price of €195,480 for the 28 and €239,360 for its test boat.

Buying checks for a Dragonfly

Fold it at the survey. Run the Swing Wing in and out on each side. It should take about a minute per side with no tools. Stiffness or noise points to the hinges and beam fittings.

Know Touring from Performance. The Performance has the carbon mast, bigger sails and wave-piercing floats. Check the rig against the listing, because it changes the price a lot.

Inspect the centreboard and kick-up rudder. Both get used in shallow water and on beaches. Look for impact damage on the leading edges and in the trunk.

Price the import. On a European boat, add shipping, US duty and documentation, and ask whether the trailer is road-legal here. Many come with European trailers.
